June 2 - Are your goals SMART? Your daily challenge today is to transform your Resolution into a SMART goal that clearly defines what you want to accomplish and when.

We all have goals, but do you have a plan to reach them? Individuals who have a plan in mind are 10 times more successful than those who do not, and those who write it down are 3 times more successful on top of that.

Goals are powerful. Keep in mind, when setting your goal it should be a SMART or SMARTER one. SMART stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-based. The “E” and “R” in SMARTER stand for Evaluation and Reflection. An example of a SMART goal would be:

  • I will train for and complete my first 5k in 6 months.
  • I will attend 3 group fitness classes per week for the next 4 weeks.

A not-so-SMART goal would look like:

  • My goal is to get fit.
  • My goal is to eat healthy and lose weight.
  • I want to lose 25 pounds in one month.

Your challenge today is to look over the goal you set yesterday and review it using the SMART acronym. Is it specific? Does clearly states what you are trying accomplish and how you will get there? Can you measure it? When will you check-in on your progress? Do you realistically have the time, support and resources you need to achieve it? Write down your answers to each area of the SMART acronym to ensure your goal can and will be reached.
